School Liaison Office

The School Liaison Program Manager is a community facilitator, connecting and collaborating with commands, schools, families, and community services related to military-child education.

That includes everything from helping families navigate school transitions and special education support to coordinating base and school events, developing support for students during deployments and building college, career and military readiness.

The School Liaison Office supports the total force across RAF Alconbury, RAF Molesworth, RAF Wyton and RAF Menwith Hill, including active-duty, guard, reserve, DoD civilian, contractor and local national employees and their students attending DoDEA schools, local British schools and homeschooling. Our goal is to ensure that all children assigned to our installations thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

DoDEA Schools

DoDEA operates two schools on RAF Alconbury which are available to American military and civilian families stationed in the area. Alconbury Elementary School serves about 200 Universal Pre-K through fifth grade students and Alconbury Middle High School serves about 200 students in grades 6-12. Bus transportation is provided for DoDEA students to several nearby villages. Contact the School Bus Office before securing a home off-base to determine if the location is served.

British Schools

All resident children in the UK are entitled to a free education at a state-funded school from ages 5-16. Independent schools, including some post-16 Sixth Form schools, charge tuition. Some faith/church schools are state-funded. The British education system is a little different from US schools, but it affords children the opportunity to be immersed in the local culture and environment. The school year is divided into three terms with breaks in-between and a 6-week summer holiday. Applications for a school space must be submitted through the Local Authority where you live. The three councils near Alconbury and Molesworth can be found at: CambridgeshireNorthamptonshirePeterborough.

Homeschooling

The option to educate at home is always available, and this decision is entirely up to the parent. No financial support or reimbursement is offered if this education option is chosen as a DoDEA school is available in the area. However, the School Liaison can provide additional support and resources and homeschooled students may participate in auxiliary services at DoDEA such as clubs and athletics programs. For more information and requirements on participating in these services, please visit https://www.dodea.edu/home-schooling or contact the School Registrar at the phone numbers listed above.

Youth Sponsorship

Moving to a new community and school is always challenging. The RAF Alconbury Youth Sponsorship Program assists in easing the transition of relocating youth and teens ages 9-18 to their new home in the United Kingdom. Sponsors are a familiar and friendly face before and after arrival and can link the new student with information about available programs & activities in the local area and provide base tours. If your student would like to have a peer introduce them to their new community upon arrival, please complete the Youth Sponsorship Questionnaire and return to the School Liaison Office.
